Evan Roberts threw eight innings in the Wildcats’ victory over Lehigh.

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson baseball (8-2) moved back into the win column, downing Lehigh (3-6) 7-3 to even the series Saturday at Wilson Field.

Senior Evan Roberts delivered a strong performance, going eight innings scattering six hits and falling one strikeout shy of his career-high, fanning seven. The eight frames ties for Roberts’ longest career outing, when he threw eight in last year’s Regional versus FGCU.

Junior Eric Jones was three for four on the day, and hit two doubles in the process.

Reigning National Player of the Week Eric Jones carried another hot bat, pulling in two doubles on a 3-for-4 day. Classmate Max Bazin tallied two hits, his third straight multi-hit contest, and sophomore Brett Centracchio also registered two hits and scored twice. Junior Justin Lebek and sophomore Ward Coleman each drove in two runs apiece.

Lehigh struck first, using two singles and a passed ball to get on the board in the first inning. The ‘Cats tied the contest in the same inning, using two hit-by-pitches and back-to-back walks to even the score 1-1.

The Mountain Hawks took the lead in the third, plating two runs off two doubles and a single.

Davidson cut the deficit in half in the bottom of that frame after junior Cam Johnson led off with a triple to deep right center. He came home on a single through the left side from classmate Alec Acosta.

Redshirt freshman Alex Mardiney takes a lead off second after hitting a double against Lehigh.

The Wildcats then took the lead the following frame after sophomore Greg Lowe, who boarded earlier via walk, came home on a Johnson sac fly.

They added insurance in the fifth, scoring three runs after Centracchio led off the frame and Jones then doubled him to third. Both came home after Coleman pulled in a three-bagger of his own, and then Coleman scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman Alex Mardiney.

Centracchio plated the final run of the contest in the sixth, after leading off with a single through the right side and came home on a fielder’s choice from Lebek.

Davidson and Lehigh will meet for the rubber match Sunday at noon.
