North Mecklenburg Residents Can Learn About Greenways at Mecklenburg Meeting
Residents of northern Mecklenburg County have a chance to learn about their future greenways at the Northern Towns Greenways for Mecklenburg Summit on April 30th in Cornelius.
The current Mecklenburg County Master Plan, approved in 2008, calls for 129 miles of paved greenway trails by 2018. There are currently 47 miles completed, with fewer than 10 miles of those trails in northern Mecklenburg County.
Roughly 76% of residents polled in Mecklenburg County list greenways as their top recreational priority. Return on investment for a completed portion of Little Sugar Creek Greenway in Midtown is estimated to be $10 in economic development for every $1 spent. Still, greenway construction lags behind the county’s own plans.
