Friday

Active Reading Workshop: A Four Part Series

May 11 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Davidson Branch Library – 119 South Main Street

Come learn fun ideas and activities that you can use to support early literacy at home. Learn how to use the ABC’s of Active Reading one on one with your child. This workshop is for parents/caregivers of children ages 2-5 and their children. Registration is required. This is a 4-part series and participants will benefit from attending every session: 5/4, 5/11, 5/18, 5/25.

 Lake Norman Bike Expo & Community Ride

May 12 @ 8:00 am – 10:00 am

Davidson Parks and Rec – 865 South Street

Join the Town of Davidson and the Town of Cornelius to celebrate Bike Month with a Bike Expo, Family Bicycle Ride and a Community Bicycle Ride. Whether you’re a new or seasoned cyclist, the Bike Expo will have something for everyone. The Expo will provide attendees an opportunity to demo bikes from area bike shops, learn about bicycle safety and maintenance, and experience unique bikes such as folding bicycles, electric assist bikes, and more. Davidson Parks and Recreation will have their solar-electric ELF bike to demo (made in Durham, NC) and the Town of Cornelius will have information on new greenways and how to safely navigate around town our your bike. Community Bike Ride starts at 8:30 am, a 10 mile ride (age 14+ with adult), and the Family Bike Ride will leave at 10:30am. Registration for the 8:30am Community Ride will take place onsite beginning at 8:00am.

 

Davidson Farmers’ Market

The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

 

Girls on the Run of the Greater Piedmont 5K

May 12 @ 8:00 am – 11:00 am

Lowe’s Corporate Headquarters, 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard, Mooresville

Packet pick up will be on site on Saturday, May 12, beginning at 8 a.m. The event will begin at 9 a.m. on May 12 at 1000 Lowe’s Boulevard, Mooresville. Early arrival is suggested. For more information about the event, how to register and volunteer opportunities, visit the website.

 

Women’s Self Defense

Learn the basics of self-defense along with understanding situational awareness. You will learn to identify potentially dangerous situations and how to exploit an attacker’s weaknesses. You will learn basic self-defense techniques that work regardless of your size or skill. We will teach you how to develop an “I will win” attitude and show you how to use your environment to your advantage. An Afternoon with Author Renee Hodges

Please join Main Street Books in welcoming author Renee Hodges, author of the memoir Saving Bobby, to the store for a reading and signing. When Renée Hodges invited her nephew, Bobby, to stay so he could visit a doctor about his back pain, she knew he was recovering from an addiction to prescription painkillers. She believed that if he could address his back problems, he’d have a better chance of a long-term recovery—but she was completely unprepared for the lengthy journey that followed. Saving Bobby is the story of that journey.
