Ready, Set, Weekend in Davidson: June 9-11
It is reunion weekend at the college and there will be the usual buzz around campus. This year the college is hosting the “3s and 8s.” Graduates from class years ending in 3 or 8 will be in town to gather with their classmates. The Class of 1968 is the honored class, as they are celebrating their 50th reunion.
Davidson Farmers’ Market
June 9 @ 8:00 am – 12:00 pm
The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.
Grand Opening of Fire Station #2

19436 Davidson-Concord Road
Community members are invited to the grand opening ceremony for Davidson Fire Station 2, located at 19436 Davidson-Concord Road on June 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This station will serve the eastern portions of the Davidson/North Star Fire District, improving response times to this area. Fire Station 2 will house an engine company staffed with four firefighters who are also certified Emergency Medical Technicians. A short ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. Following the ceremony will be station tours, demonstrations of fire apparatus, food, and frozen custard until 1:00 p.m. At 11:00 a.m., fire fighters will host a story time for children.
There are two parking options:
- Park at Historic Beaver Dam (19600 Davidson-Concord Road) and walk through the grass to the new fire station to avoid traffic.
- Park at the River Run athletic field (19000 Davidson-Concord Road), cross Davidson-Concord Road at the intersection of Robert Walker Drive, walk down the new side path along Davidson-Concord Road, and wait for the Davidson Police Officer to stop traffic in front of the new station for a safe crossing.

An Afternoon with Author Robert Bailey

Author Robert Bailey is a Davidson College graduate who works as a civil defense trial lawyer in his hometown of Huntsville, Alabama. He is the author the McMurtie and Drake Investigation series. In the latest installment of the series, The Last Trial, former law professor Tom McMurtrie tackles his greatest challenge when his old nemesis, Jack Willistone, is found dead on the banks of the Black Warrior River. Willistone had his share of enemies, but all evidence points to a forgotten, broken woman as the killer. At the urging of the suspect’s desperate fourteen-year-old daughter, McMurtrie agrees to take the case. Join Bailey at Main Street Books for a reading, discussion, and signing of his latest book.
Concert on the Green: The Band of Oz

The Band of Oz was formed in 1967 as a part-time band playing fraternity parties and high school proms all over the South. In 1977 the band went on the road full time. Since that time the band has made an exceptional name for itself throughout the Southeast by playing the top clubs and corporate parties, and getting excellent reviews along the way. For several years the group has been a guest on most of the major beach concerts in the Carolinas, Virginia, and Georgia.
Summer Break Kickoff on The Green
