Davidson Community Players Hold Open Auditions for Deathtrap

Davidson Community Players announces its open auditions for their next 2018 Main Stage production, Deathtrap, written by Ira Levin and directed by Stuart Jonap. Auditions will be held Aug. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m.  Actors only need to attend one evening of auditions. Both auditions will take place at Armour Street Theatre, 307 Armour St., Davidson. The production will run Sept. 27-Oct. 14 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Copies of the script (with a $10 deposit) will be available at the DCP office or by emailing [email protected].

Show Synopsis:

Seemingly at ease in his charming Connecticut home, Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, struggles to overcome a “dry” spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from one of his students—a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential commercial hit. Sidney offers to mentor the student but connives to steal the script. Suspense steadily mounts that will enthrall audiences until the play’s startling final moments.

Roles:

Sidney Bruhl: Male, 45-60
Once a celebrated playwright on Broadway, his recent flops and concurrent writer’s block have caused him to become desperate for a hit. Witty, dashing and clever yet manical enough to murder in order to get what he wants.

*Moderate stage combat

Myra Bruhl: Female, 40-55
A match to Sidney, she is sophisticated and upper class. She is incredibly supportive of Sidney’s career and altering moods. Sweet, caring, emotional, nervous, even skittish, she suffers from a heart condition.
*Minor stage combat

Clifford Anderson: Male, 20-35
A mannerly, enthusiastic young man who is star struck by the famous, older playwright and is eagerly intent on making a name for himself with his own successful thriller. Charming and innocent, he is also quite cunning.
*Moderate stage combat

Helga Ten Dorp: Female, 40+
A Dutch psychic from next door. She is a comedic character and quite eccentric but her magical powers are very real and potent. Knows she’s a celebrity and buys into the show of her gift. Comical yet credible.

Porter Milgrim: Male, 40+
Professional and personal long-time friend to Sidney. A pragmatic lawyer, who also has a dirty little secret.
