40th ANNUAL NORTH MECK BBQ
40th ANNUAL NORTH MECK BBQ
Friday October 19, 2018
In the school’s only major fundraiser, North Mecklenburg High School’s PTA will hold it 40th Annual Barbecue on Friday, October 19, from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The drive-through line can be accessed off of Alexandriana Road.
The pitmaster is Gary Payne. He and his crew work all night, preparing and cooking the 4,000-5,000 pounds of pork that they purchased from Smithfield Foods. The event chairperson for the PTA is Christy Cowan.

The PTA is grateful that, 25 years ago, parents built permanent pits on the campus, near the baseball field. North Meck senior, Phillip Hazel, took on cleaning and renovating the pits for his Eagle Scout project. “I built a new table and put in a drain to help water stay out of the cooking pits. It should work really well this year.”
- A bbq plate (6 ounces of BBQ, 2 buns, chips, and slaw)
- A chicken plate (1/2 a smoked chicken, chips, slaw)
- Bulk container (12 oz)
They also have a buffet for ten or more people at $80, which is great for a party. T-shirts are also available for $10.

The PTA funds between four and seven scholarships for North Meck students annually. The PTA is also able to provide school supplies to classrooms and teachers, as well as hold staff appreciation events.
This special event is for the entire North Mecklenburg community, as its successful 40 years of barbecue sales will attest.
