Davidson Community Players to Hold Open Auditions for “Benedictions”

Davidson Community Players announces its open auditions for their 2019 Main Stage production, Benedictions, written by Judy Simpson Cook and directed by Sylvia Schnople. Auditions will be held Monday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday, January 8 at 7:00 p.m. Both auditions will take place at DCP’s Actor’s Lab located at 20700 N. Main Street, Suite 112 in Cornelius. The production will run February 21-March 10, 2019 at the Armour Street Theatre in Davidson.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Actors should be prepared to stay for the entire audition, and only need to come to one of the audition sessions. Please bring a headshot and a resume. Perusal copies of the script (with a $10 deposit) will be available at the DCP office. Please call the box office at 704-892-7953 to arrange pick up.

Show Synopsis:

Jesse Bradshaw Warren is a Presbyterian minister who appears to have everything: she’s the senior minister in a large church and she’s happily married with two sons. When David Mack Kelly, a young gay man, comes to see her for counseling, his presence in the church seems to worry others, and Jesse starts to feel the conflict between her fondness for him, the animosity toward him from others, and his challenges to her doctrine and beliefs. Then, she faces an unspeakable family tragedy, and everything in Jesse’s life comes into question: her work as a minister, her marriage, and her belief in God. 

Roles:

Lee Warren-This role has already been cast.

Jesse Warren-Senior Minister of St. Thomas Presbyterian Church, Early to mid-40’s.

Agnes Day Richardson-Director of Christian Education at St. Thomas, 35 and up.

Shep Warren-Jesse and Lee’s 18-year-old son.

Chris Warren-Jesse and Lee’s 16-year-old son.

David Mack Kelly-A gay man in his late 20’s-early 30’s.

Ray Ritchie-church leader, 40 and up.

All ages are approximate and appearance is more important than actual age. 

Age ranges are guidelines but all who are interested are encouraged to audition. Please see the DCP website for our casting policy.
