Men’s Tennis Sweeps Past Winthrop

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson made it two in a row in shutout fashion, taking a 7-0 home win against Winthrop Sunday afternoon in men’s tennis inside the Knobloch Tennis Center.
Davidson moved to 2-0 and sent the Eagles to their second defeat in three matches.
“The guys competed great today,” said head coach Drew Barrett. “Our No. 2 and 3 doubles are starting off the season well. Our players are making a lot of plays and competing well. It is great to see everyone improve each outing.”
The match started off with Davidson taking the doubles point after wins of 6-2 and 6-1 at No. 2 and 3 positions by Camden Mazzoni and Douglas MacIntosh along with Matthew Rose and Alexander Loope.
Mazzoni and MacIntosh led the way in singles play with straight set wins of 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 and 6 positions.
Reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week winner Sam Kavarana regrouped from dropping a 7-5 decision in his first set to rolling in 6-4, 6-1 wins in the next two sets at No. 3.
The ‘Cats’ top two players, Axel Fries and Yash Parikh, scored wins of 6-4, 6-3 and 7-5, 7-5 for their second wins of the year.
Scoring the last singles win was Brooks Green with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
Davidson closes out a three-game homestand by hosting Presbyterian, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m.
