Davidson Community Players’ The Connie Company Holds Open Auditions for Junie B. Jones the Musical Jr.

by | Feb 7, 2019 | Arts & Entertainment, Davidson Community Players

Davidson Community Players is holding open auditions for the spring Connie Company youth musical production of Junie B. Jones the Musical Jr., adapted from the Junie B. Jones books by Barbara Park.

Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend, Lucille, has found new best friends – and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard – and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.

Auditions for Junie B. Jones the Musical will be held on Friday, February 15 from 5-7 p.m, and Saturday, February 16  from 10 a.m.-noon at DCP’s Actor’s Lab, 20700 N. Main St., Cornelius. Youth ages 8-20 are invited to audition. Available roles and character descriptions are on the website

Actors only need to attend one audition session. Those interested should bring a recent picture, resume or list of theatre experience, and a list of conflicts for the February through May time frame. In all cases, auditionees should arrive at the start of the appropriate audition and plan to stay for the entire session.  Auditionees should be prepared to bring sheet music and sing sixteen bars of a song; learn a short, choreographed dance routine and participate in cold readings from the script.

Performances dates are April 26-May 5. All performances will take place at Armour Street Theatre. Production and rehearsal details will be available at the audition. The production will be directed by Sylvia Schnople.

The Connie Company also seeks teens and college students interested in working behind the scenes as student stage managers, running crew, and technicians. Internship credit is available. Contact Katie Mullis, Education Director at her email  for more information.
