Jewish Film Festival at Lake Norman

“Sundays at the Lake” presents a selection of films for the entire community. The films are shown in Our Town Cinema in Davidson.

Sunday, February 17, 4:00 PM – “The Samuel Project”
Eli (Ryan Ochoa) gets to know his grandfather Samuel (Hal Linden) for the first time when he makes him the subject of an animated art project for school. Through the project, Eli discovers the details of how his Grandpa was saved from Nazi capture in Germany.

Sunday, February 24, 4:00 PM – “Wendy’s Shabbat/The invisibles”
A lively group of Jewish senior citizens observe Shabbat at the local Wendy’s fast food restaurant, with Hebrew blessings, along with burgers and fries.

In June 1943, when Germany was declared “free of Jews,” there were still 7,000 Jews in hiding in Berlin, protected by courageous citizens, while desperately trying to avoid deportation. Only 1,700 lived to liberation, and The Invisibles tells the stories of four of these survivors, interweaving their testimony with highly accomplished dramatizations, an unusual hybrid approach that brings edge-of-the-seat suspense to their years spent underground.

Sunday, March 3, 4:00 PM – “Golda’s Balcony, The Film”
A film of the stage production of the acclaimed Broadway show Golda’s Balcony, starring Tovah Feldshuh, this amazing story follows the life of Golda Meir, from Russian immigrant to American schoolteacher, to a leader of international politics as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel.
