Major Grants Will Upgrade Physical Plant at the Ada Jenkins Center

by | Mar 28, 2019 | Ada Jenkins Center, News

Two half-million-dollar grants to the Ada Jenkins Center are allowing the Davidson non-profit organization to conduct major renovations. A Mecklenburg County Community Development Block Grant is being utilized to abandon the center’s old boiler system, thirty-plus window units, and install a new HVAC system.

A Lowe’s Charitable & Educational Foundation grant is financing renovation of the south end of the gym. The stage floor is being dropped to ground level, and replaced with a two-deck classroom, effectively doubling its former footprint. The basketball goals in the gym will be retained, and the space will continue to be used for youth recreation, storage for the Ada Jenkins Center food pantry, instructional space for LEARN Works youth sessions, and adult education classes. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.
