Main Street Books Presents Story Time and Reading of “Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut”
This year, our neighbor Raeford’s Barber Shop celebrated 25 years of business on Main Street. (Editor’s Note: see article about Raeford’s Barber Shop and its 25 years of operation: https://newsofdavidson.org/2018/09/25/8757/raefords-barber-shop-to-celebrate-25th-anniversary/) That’s a quarter century of fresh cuts, of getting to know multiple generations of Davidson families, of serenading the town during Christmas in Davidson, and of trimming the heads of the Davidson men’s basketball teams (and the young fan clubs that trail them).
This week, we are thrilled to present the author and illustrator duo behind one of our favorite children’s books, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut. Author Derrick Barnes and illustrator Gordon James earned every single award a picture book can win in 2018, and it is such an honor for them host Saturday morning story time, in part because of their talent and accolades and in part because we know so well the joys a neighborhood barber shop can bring.
These Caldecott, Newbery, Kirkus, and Coretta Scott King Honor- winning gentlemen will also sign copies of their stellar book after the reading. Don’t have a copy, yet? Snap a photo of yourself getting a fresh cut from Raeford’s this week, tag the bookshop or show us your photo in store, and receive 10% off your copy of Crown.
As always, we love to share books, community events, and general literary merriment. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
