Wildcat Field Hockey Schedule Announced
The Davidson field hockey team expects to be challenged at home and on the road this fall, first-year head coach Zoe Almquist said when releasing the 2019 schedule Tuesday.
The Wildcats, 5-13 a year ago, will begin the season on the road Friday, Aug. 30 at Georgetown.
The home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 6 against Ohio at 6 p.m. on Belk Turf Field, and the eight-match Atlantic 10 season begins with a Friday-Sunday road trip to Saint Francis (Pa.) and Lock Haven on Sept. 20, 22.
“I am looking forward to my inaugural season with the wildcats, playing tremendous opponents across the eastern seaboard,” said Almquist, a former team captain and assistant coach at Northwestern. “Even though I only had a few short weeks with the team this spring, it was immediately apparent how motivated and excited this team is for our upcoming fall competition. We cannot wait to lay the foundation for Davidson field hockey as we blaze a new trail forward.”
In league competition, the Wildcats will also visit VCU (Oct. 4) and St. Joseph’s (Oct. 25). Davidson will host A-10 foes La Salle (Sept. 27), UMass (Oct. 11), Saint Louis (Oct. 18) and Richmond (Nov. 1).
Davidson will welcome Wake Forest of the ACC to Belk Turf Field (Oct. 20) and also host non-conference foes Miami (Ohio) and William & Mary. Also out of league play, the Wildcats will visit Appalachian State, Towson, Longwood and Villanova and play neutral-site games against Merrimack and Ball State.
