This August, two indie presses – Dead Rabbits Books & Southern Fried Karma Press – will embark on a collaborative literary tour across North Carolina to bring writers, readers, and publishers together to expand and uplift the literary community. Attendees can expect to hear the work of burgeoning authors from each press, meet with the publishers and editors about finding an audience for their work, and join in conversation that connects the literary community. Both presses hope to share their knowledge of the publishing industry while also learning from attendees about how they can support local literary communities. Additionally, many of these events will be recorded and appear on the Dead Rabbits Podcast to shine a light on writing and work done locally.

The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is back this week. DFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market, which is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

Charlotte Youth Cycling Race

The Charlotte Youth Cycling League is a non-profit youth race league that provides an authentic mountain bike race experience in a setting that is safe and scaled appropriately to youth by their age and ability. Through mountain bike racing, we aspire to instill good bike skills and good life skills to create an awesome generation of mountain bikers and human beings. In the event of inclement weather, the race course will be adjusted to protect the trail as directed by trail coordinator, Mark Sullivan, or cancelled/rescheduled, if deemed that the conditions will have lasting negative effects on the park. I will also be sending our emergency action plan and other details to you via email. Thank you for your hospitality of our event, and I look forward to having a great race on August 11th and possibly September 8th!

Main Street Hooks is a free and open book and knitting club brought to readers by Main Street Books in partnership with Davidson’s craft store, Hearts on Fiber, that meets at the bookstore monthly for an hour of communal knitting and audiobook enjoyment. Hearts on Fiber staff are available at every meeting to guide beginner knitters/crocheters, while intermediate to advanced fiber crafters continue their own projects in the cozy company of fellow yarn enthusiasts and book nerds. Bookseller and knitting extraordinaire, Jan Blodgett, is also on site to assist with advanced knitting snafus. Hearts on Fiber also offers an on-site pop-up shop during Main Street Hooks meetings to meet the supply needs of club members.

Davidson Community Players announces its open auditions for their 2019 production of “Wait Until Dark,” written by Frederick Scott. Auditions will be held Sunday, August 11 and Monday August 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the DCP Actor’s Lab. 20700 N. Main Street, Suite 112, Cornelius, NC. Production dates are September 26 –October 13 at the Armour Street Theatre. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Actors should be prepared to stay for the entire audition, and only need to come to one of the audition sessions. Please bring a headshot and a resume. Perusal copies of the script (with a $10 deposit) will be available at the DCP office. Please call the box office at 704-892-7953 to arrange pick up.
