Built amid secrecy during the American Civil War, the H.L. Hunley has held tightly to its murky mysteries. The H.L. Hunley, nearly 40 feet long, was built in Mobile, Alabama. Many have questions as to why it slipped to the bottom of the sea after its success changed naval warfare.
Scott Hippensteel, PhD, Associate Professor of Earth Sciences at UNC-Charlotte, who has been a member of the research team since the mini-submarine was raised in 1995, will share his story.
