The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is back this week. DFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

 

Book Signing with Muriel Sheubrooks

Join author Muriel Sheubrooks at Main Street Books Saturday morning, when she will be signing copies of her book, “Beyond the Fences.” It is the late 1940s as little Marilyn White grows up in tranquil Kentucky farm country, distant from the countries ravaged by the Second World War. Surrounded by a loving, supportive family, Marilyn’s life experiences take her through incredible obstacles and personal growth as her younger sister struggles with a paralyzing illness. As she matures and decides to study in Milan, Marilyn begins executing a plan to achieve her dreams.

 

An Afternoon with Elisa Troutman

Main Street Books and Charlotte Writers Club North invite readers to the bookstore for an afternoon of poetry with writer Elisa Troutman. Anthony S. Abbott, Professor Emeritus of English at Davidson College, will introduce Elisa Troutman and her new collection of poems, “Southern Exposure,” on Saturday, September 7 at 4:00 p.m. at Main Street Books. Abbott is a Professor Emeritus of English at Davidson College. Among his many honors is the North Carolina Award for Literature, the highest civilian honor given by the state in recognition significant contributions in literature and public service.

Joseph Rincón has been honing his abilities on the guitar for over eighteen years and has performed extensively throughout the United States and in Spain. He earned his B.M. in Performance degree from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as well as receiving a formal recognition as “Outstanding Performer” by the faculty of the department of music. He also received two additional recognition and scholarships from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke for his exceptional skill in music performance. In 2017, he completed the Máster en Interpretación de Guitarra Clásica program at the Universitat d’Alacant, in Alicante, Spain. During his time in Spain, he studied closely with world-renowned guitarists, such as Manuel Barrueco, Xavier Díaz-Latorre, Pepe Romero, Fabio Zanon, and Grammy-Award winning guitarist David Russell.

 

Davidson Women’s Soccer Game – Senior Day

Come on out to cheer on the Wildcats as they take on Georgia Southern. Come out a little bit early, as the team will recognize their seniors at the beginning of the game. The team will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of the women’s soccer program.

 

Main Street Hooks

Hearts on Fiber – 208 S. Village Lane, Suite A

Main Street Hooks is a free and open book and knitting club brought to readers by Main Street Books in partnership with Davidson’s craft store, Hearts on Fiber, that meets monthly for an hour of communal knitting and audio book enjoyment. This month, Main Street Hooks will meet at Hearts on Fiber. Hearts on Fiber staff are available at every meeting to guide beginner knitters/crocheters, while intermediate to advanced fiber crafters continue their own projects in the cozy company of fellow yarn enthusiasts and book nerds. Bookseller and knitter extraordinaire, Jan Blodgett, is also on site to assist with advanced knitting snafus.

Family Story time

Bring your family (ages birth to 5) out to enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities that support early literacy skill development and help foster a love of books and reading in your child. Registration opens 30 minutes prior to story time at 9.30 a.m. Please check in at the desk.

 

Rotary Club of Davidson

September 9 @ 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Davidson meets on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Mondays of each month (excluding federal holidays).  Noon – 1:00 pm at North Harbor Club Restaurant. Meetings last about an hour. Visitors welcome! Guest Speaker is State Senator Natasha Marcus.
