Announcing “Meet the Need” to Launch News of Davidson’s Third Year
In the two years since its launch in September 2017, News of Davidson has become a key source of news and information for Davidson and the Lake Norman area. To celebrate the beginning of our third year serving the community, we are proud to introduce “Meet the Need,” an online hub to connect you to the needs of local nonprofit organizations.
If you have time or goods to spare, you may have wondered which of our community nonprofits is looking for your help — and what they need. Now, News of Davidson will list the immediate needs of local nonprofits, updating the lists every month.
Nonprofit volunteers and staff are excited about this new tool and eager to help News of Davidson keep their needs updated.
“Davidson Housing Coalition is always looking for new and creative ways to tell our story and reach people. We thank News of Davidson for providing this way for nonprofits and local citizens to discover each other,” said Marcia Webster, executive director for DHS.
Founder and president of E2D Pat Millen also welcomed News of Davidson’s efforts to amplify E2D’s imperative of 100 percent digital inclusion in support of academic success. “Davidson citizens have always been extraordinary in terms of supporting local non-profits,” he said.
As examples, when you go to La Escuelita San Alban on Meet the Need, you’ll find they need a garden assistant, among a number of other means of assistance. The Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center has snacks, tissues, AA batteries among needs on its list.
To find September needs, go to Meet the Need on the News of Davidson site. Lists will be updated every month, and needs will vary, ranging from donating goods and services to volunteering, to supporting coming events.

News of Davidson thanks reader, Pam Dystra, for coming to us with the concept and for much of the legwork to bring Meet the Need to life, and NoD intern Langston Stephens, a Davidson College junior, for jumping into the project. Both are now official NoD volunteers and board members!
