Davidson Community Players announces open auditions for its annual holiday show, Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol by Tom Mula.  The play features the timeless characters from Charles Dickens famous novel but viewed from a different perspective. “Marley was dead, to begin with…”—and what happens to Ebenezer Scrooge’s mean, sour, pruney old business partner after that? Chained and shackled, Marley is condemned to a hellish eternity. He’s even given his own private tormentor: a malicious little hell-sprite who thoroughly enjoys his work. Desperate, Marley accepts his one chance to free himself: To escape his own chains, he must first redeem Scrooge. So begins a journey of laughter and terror, redemption and renewal, during which Scrooge’s heart, indeed, is opened; but not before Marley—in this irreverent, funny and deeply moving story—discovers his own. This show is directed by Matt Webster.

Auditions will take place on Sunday, October 13 and Monday, Oct. 14 at 7:00 pm at the Actors Lab, 20700 North Main Street, Ste. 112 in Cornelius. Actors need only attend one audition session. DCP is seeking four actors capable of playing multiple roles, switching effortlessly in and out of multiple characters, in a “Story Theatre” style.  A familiarity with Story Theatre performance styles is a plus.

The actors will play multiple characters; however, each actor will portray a base character throughout the show. During auditions, actors will be required to demonstrate their ability to create multiple unique characters.  They will also be required to demonstrate an aptitude for story telling.

Actors should be prepared to offer cold readings from the script, move in the space, and improvise.  No experience is required. Character descriptions are set forth below and all races and ethnicities are welcome! Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol will be performed at the Armour Street Theater in Davidson from December 5 through 22 with 15 shows scheduled during that period.  For a script perusal please contact the box office at 704-892-7953. Character descriptions are as follows:

ACTOR 1 – Jacob Marley, Christmas Past, Christmas present and others

ACTOR 2 – Bogle and others

ACTOR 3 – Scrooge, a Damned soul and others
