Davidson Volleyball Battles in Loss to VCU
DAVIDSON — Wildcats volleyball coach Chris Willis liked how his team fought Friday night in a 3-0 loss to Atlantic 10 leader VCU in Belk Arena.
“I thought we battled well,” said Willis. “We served and passed well. Offensively, we took some really good swings and were pretty efficient. VCU was just better than us at executing offensively.”
The Rams emerged with 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16 victories. The second set was particularly close, featuring 17 ties and 12 lead changes.
Hattie Rodriguez led Davidson with 10 kills and hit .231. Sydney Champaigne had 28 assists, and Josie Treadwell had eight digs.
The match with the Rams is the only one of the weekend for the Wildcats.
“One match this weekend is perfect for us as we move into the heart of midterms at Davidson,” said Willis. “I think the two days of rest will pay dividends for us.”
