Friday is the final day of Early Voting. Election Day is Tuesday.

Early Voting – FINAL DAY

Nov. 1 @ 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

Cornelius Town Hall

This is the final day of early voting in Mecklenburg County. The closest early voting location is Cornelius Town Hall. Election Day is Tuesday and voters will have to vote at their assigned precincts on Election Day.

Disney’s Aladdin JR. is based on the 1992 Academy-Award®-winning film and the 2014 hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the rough” street rat who learns that his true worth lies deep within. The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is back this week. DFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

 

Walk with a Doc

This is the second year of Walk with a Doc. We meet on the Town Green for our walk and talk at 9:00 a.m. and the walk lasts until 10:00 a.m. NOTE: WWAD will be held on the first and third Saturdays in November. Come out and enjoy the fall weather and then get your coffee and walk around the Farmers Market. This week’s discussion will be the pros & cons of flu shots.

Meet children’s book author Chris Valada at Main Street Books as he shares his Christmas picture book, “Crunch Rides to the North Pole,” children’s Christmas adventure story. When a snowstorm stops the mail, Crunch delivers the neighborhood children’s letters to Santa himself. Ride along with Crunch as he travels to the North Pole. You’ll meet new friends, solve problems, and help Santa on Christmas Eve! As an avid motorcyclist for over 20 years, Chris Valada has visited beautiful places and met amazing people all over the world. He began writing short stories as a way to share his travels with his children.

 

Cookie Crumb Trail

Participating Davidson businesses will host a “Cookie Crumb Trail” on Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Over 20 businesses will hand out freshly baked, pre-packaged cookies to passport holders.

 

“Community Mural Day” at Ada Jenkins

Nov. 2 @ 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Ada Jenkins Center – 212 Gamble Street

This mural will honor and celebrate the legacy of Mrs. Ada Jenkins, who helped transform Davidson with her passion and commitment to education. No special artistic skills are needed; student artists will be available to help everyone be part of this historical masterpiece. We’ll provide snacks, beverages, and music. No RSVP needed – community friends and neighbors are invited to simply arrive and become part of the celebration!

An Afternoon with Dr. Anna Pai, Memoirist

We are pleased to host Davidson resident, Anna Choa Pai, to share her memoir, “From Manchurian Princess to the American Dream: An Anecdotal Memoir of Two Immigrant Lives.” Dr. Pai is a Sweetbriar College alumna and retired professor of genetics at Montclair State University (NJ). About the book: While most immigrants to the United States seek better lives than what they had, author Anna Chao Pai’s parents came seeking safety from the Japanese; they left a life of luxury and power to become ordinary American citizens. In the end, the transition to ordinary was traumatic for Pai’s mother, who became mentally unbalanced.

In the spirit of Fred Rogers, Gavin Edwards and Main Street Books invite our neighbors to bring coats in children’s and adult sizes to the Kindness and Wonder event for donation to Davidson K-8 whose staff provides winter wear to students in need.

Bring your family (ages birth to 5) out to enjoy stories, songs, and movement activities that support early literacy skill development and help foster a love of books and reading in your child. Registration opens 30 minutes prior to story time at 9.30 am. Please check in at the desk.

 

Active Reading Workshop (Part 1 of 2)

Nov. 4 @ 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Davidson Branch Library – 119 S. Main Street

Come learn fun ideas and activities that you can use to support early literacy at home. Learn how to use the ABC’s of Active Reading one-on-one with your child. For parents and caregivers – come prepared to play and learn together with your child. This workshop is for parents/ caregivers of children ages 2-5 and their children. Registration is required. This is a two-part series and participants will benefit from attending every session: Part Two, Monday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Voters are reminded to cast their votes at their precincts if you haven’t voted early. Voters will have the chance to vote for Mayor, Town Board, two ballot referenda, Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board At-large positions, and a request to increase the county tax rate.
