Ready, Set, Veterans’ Day Weekend in Davidson

The Town of Davidson Veterans’ Day Ceremony will be held Monday (Nov. 11) at 11:00 a.m. in front of Town Hall.

Davidson Community Player’s “Aladdin Jr.”

November 8 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Armour Street Theatre – 307 Armour Street

The story you know and love has been given the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for young performers! The show is directed by Katie Mullis. Several days have multiple performances. Please check the website for performance times.  Advanced tickets are $12 each and $14 at the door and are available at DavidsonCommunityPlayers.org or by calling the box office at 704-892-7953.

The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is back this week. DFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

Main Street Hooks

Hearts on Fiber – 208 S. Village Lane, Suite A

Main Street Hooks is a free and open book and knitting club brought to readers by Main Street Books, in partnership with Davidson’s craft store Hearts on Fiber, that meets monthly for an hour of communal knitting and audiobook enjoyment. This month, Main Street Hooks will meet at Hearts on Fiber. Hearts on Fiber staff are available at every meeting to guide beginner knitters/crocheters, while intermediate to advanced fiber crafters continue their own projects in the cozy company of fellow yarn enthusiasts and book nerds. Bookseller and knitting extraordinaire Jan Blodgett is also on site to assist with advanced knitting snafus.

All citizens are invited to come to the town’s annual celebration of Veterans’ Day, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held on the steps of the town hall, with a performance by the Hough High Wind Ensemble and keynote address by Kevin Kuwik, along with the presentation of the colors by the Hough High Junior ROTC.

Local citizens of the greater Lake Norman community are coming together in Davidson for an inaugural “Vets Town Hall” next Monday. The mission is to help bridge the gap between Veterans and the civilian community. Veterans will be afforded a place to meet, as well as the opportunity to talk to other veterans and the public in a Town Hall style format.

Clara Gerdes of Davidson returns to stun growing audiences at Organ at Davidson’s 14th annual series Monday, November 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Davidson College Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Davidson. Looking into 2020: A Night with John Kasich

Duke Family Performance Hall – Davidson College Campus

John Kasich, two-term former Ohio Governor and New York Times best-selling author, will visit Davidson College on Monday, November 11. He will speak in the Duke Family Performance Hall at 7:30 p.m. with a book-signing afterward. Kasich will visit students in the classroom during his time on campus. as well. The student-led Center for Political Engagement, which seeks to offer students from across the political spectrum opportunities to engage in respectful and responsible political discourse, is hosting Governor Kasich. Tickets are on sale now. Students, faculty and staff with a Davidson ID can pick them up for free at the campus box office in the Knobloch Campus Center. Tickets are available to the public online.
