Since its inception, the ensemble has cultivated programs highlighting repertoire composed during the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun-King. Davidson’s own Collegium Musicum joins with this exciting professional early music ensemble to create an evening of stylistically informed a cappella vocal artistry. Dance Ensemble’s Fall Showcase presents student choreographers performing the pieces they’ve worked on this semester. Pieces range from African, K-pop, Modern, Bhangra, Hip-hop, Tap, etc.
Footloose the Musical

CSD ArtSpace Theater – 404 Armour Street
Community School of Davidson and Mooresville Community Children’s Theatre have forged a unique collaboration that will bring the hit musical FOOTLOOSE, based on the iconic movie of the same name, to venues in both Davidson and Mooresville this November. The production, directed by Melissa Ohlman-Roberge with choreography by Emily Hunter, will run at Community School of Davidson’s ArtSpace Theater November 13-16. The troupe will then pack up the sets, costumes and props and take them to the Joe V. Knox auditorium at Mooresville’s Charles Mack Citizen Center for performances November 21-24. Over 30 students from as far south as Charlotte and as far north as Statesville have been hard at work since mid-September. Performances will feature a live band led by John Smith. Tickets for both legs of the run are available online: www.csdspartans.seatyourself.biz for Davidson and www.mooresvillechildrenstheatre.seatyourself.biz for Mooresville. Remaining seats will be sold at the door. The production contains mild language and is appropriate for grades 6+.

The Davidson Farmer’s Market, Inc. (DFM) is back this week. DFM is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Davidson, North Carolina. This is the 10th year of the Davidson Farmers’ Market. The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round Market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The Market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition. Growers and producers are on hand to answer your questions, from “How was this grown?” to questions about how to prepare and preserve all types of foods. We are located next to the Davidson Town Hall between Main & Jackson Streets. Parking is available on Main Street, Town Hall Lot, Police Department Lot, and at Davidson Presbyterian Church lot at the corner of Depot & Jackson Streets.

For ages 7-11. Join teen scientist Alexandra and explore the topic of ENGINEERING through hands-on science experiments. This month we will be building rings made from Pringles potato chips and tetrahedron towers from coffee stirrers.

Meet Charlitta Hatch, author of Black Boy Joy. Ms. Hatch will host a signing table at Main Street Books to share her picture book with readers. Black Boy Joy is an expressive story depicting the bond of a mother and son through the eyes of the mother. As her son grows from birth to college, experiencing highs and lows, trying new things, and all that in between, the mother’s love remains constant and reassuring to her son. Hatch lives in Charlotte and is the mother of an energetic toddler. She decided to pen Black Boy Joy when she could not find children’s books that center on Black boys with positive, affirming messages. She wants this story for her own son, but also for yours! Representation matters.

Joining Jon in the second half of the program will be Charlotte Symphony Orchestra principal cellist Alan Black, performing the beautiful and virtuosic sonata for cello and piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff. Active Reading Workshop (Part 2 of 2)

Come learn fun ideas and activities that you can use to support early literacy at home. Learn how to use the ABC’s of Active Reading one on one with your child. For parents and caregivers – come prepared to play and learn together with your child. This workshop is for parents/caregivers of children ages 2-5 and their children. Registration is required. This is a two-part series and participants will benefit from attending every session.
