Ready, Set, Christmas in Davidson: Friday Edition

Santa arrived in Davidson on Thursday evening and will be at Christmas in Davidson through Saturday. Kids of all ages can visit Santa at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Congregation House – 218 Concord Road.

 

Ready, Set. . . Christmas in Davidson Weekend

Yesterday we published an edition of this week’s “Weekend in Davidson” a day early given all the things on the calendar associated with Christmas in Davidson. Today we are sending out our regular email, with Christmas in Davidson events shown as they are displayed in the town’s printed publication. Other events are listed in our normal format.

NOTE: Christmas in Davidson in a community-gathering event – a chance for friends, family, and neighbors to come together and celebrate the season. All individuals are welcome, regardless of religion, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender identity, or faith.

Davidson Art Show

A group of talented Davidson artists have their artwork on display in Davidson Town Hall. It is a great opportunity to see what this group of neighbors have created for this show.

 

Literacy Scavenger Hunt: I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas

Get ready for some Hippo-riffic fun! It is time for the Davidson Library Annual Scavenger Hunt “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” Everyone who finishes the scavenger hunt will receive a prize! Collect the clues at the Circulation desk today. Starts Monday 2nd December through to Saturday 14th December. Our literacy scavenger hunt is a self-directed activity that can be completed anytime during library hours.

Desperate, Marley accepts his one chance to free himself and to escape his own chains, but he must first redeem Scrooge. So begins a journey in which Scrooge’s heart is opened in this irreverent, funny and deeply moving story. Ages 8 and up.

Main Street – Davidson to Cornelius

The Towns of Davidson and Cornelius proudly present the 37th Annual North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. The parade starts in Davidson at the intersection of Griffith Street and Highway 115 and ends in to Cornelius at the intersection of Highway 115 and Catawba Avenue. You’ll see high school bands, horses, tractors, school groups, civic organizations, and more!

Christmas Vespers

The annual vespers service of lessons and carols is a time-honored tradition in the Davidson community. The traditional candlelight worship service features beautiful choral music provided by the Chorale, and scripture readings by campus leaders reflecting upon the hope and promise of Christ’s birth in the Christmas season. Special guests include the Davidson Pro-Arte Brass Quintet and the Davidson College Presbyterian Church Handbell Ensemble.

NCDEQ Public Information Meeting

Dec. 9 @ 6:30 p.m.

Ada Jenkins Center – 212 Gamble Street

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) Division of Waste Management (DWM) Brownfields Program will host a public information meeting pursuant to G.S. 130A-310.34(c), concerning redevelopment plans for the Davidson Depot Street Brownfields Property in Davidson, North Carolina. Representatives from DEQ, N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) as well as Mecklenburg County and Town of Davidson will be in attendance. This meeting will provide an opportunity for citizens to get an update on the Brownfields redevelopment plans for the property. The meeting will consist of presentations, a question-and-answer period and a listening session. The meeting will include a brief history of past events, ongoing activities and the planned long-term cap solution. Attendees will have an opportunity to speak and asked questions. The meeting will be focused on the proposed Brownfields redevelopment and long-term asbestos risk management at the property, not the local land-use or zoning provisions related to the project. This meeting will not cover NCDOT roadway project U-5907 or Charlotte Water water-main expansion plan.

Impeachment 101 – Presented by Dr. Eric Heberlig, Professor of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. Impeachment: The Constitution gives Congress the authority to impeach and remove “The President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States” upon a determination that such officers have engaged in treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors. Impeachment is on many minds today with our current political situation. Dr. Heberlig will explain Impeachment as defined in the United States Constitution and how the process works in practice. Don’t miss this timely presentation!
