Charlotte Water crews on scene to assess the damage and necessary repairs for a water main break at the corner of Main Street and Concord Road.

Late Tuesday night, the Town of Davidson announced that Charlotte Water expected water service to be restored to homes and businesses near the intersection of Main Street and Concord Road to be completed by 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. However, the intersection. will continue to be closed to vehicular traffic tomorrow morning – detours will be posted. Main St. will be open northbound and southbound for traffic.

Tuesday afternoon, just before 3pm, the major water main break shut down the intersection. Charlotte Water arrived on scene and began repairs that last through the evening. The intersection re-opened in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

While the intersection was closed, there were a number of detours for road traffic. A number of “road closed” and “detour” signs were posted, and police officers were in place at critical intersections to direct traffic. In addition to evening traffic, the detours were in place during the Davidson men’s basketball game.

As a reminder, Lorimer Drive is closed for Charlotte Water repairs at this time, so traffic cannot travel through Lorimer from Hillside Drive to College Drive.
