Will They Listen to the Silence?

(A Christmas Poem)

Forbidden fruit filled with
caution
in my
garden of plenty
but
they did not listen

Stone tablets imprinted with
laws of life
breaking
on my mountain
of fire
but
they did not listen

Shouts from prophets begging
even pleading-
commanding
their attention
to be my people
but
they did not listen

So now I will speak my
Word
into a Silent Night
surprising
them with my
child
but
will they listen?

So many words I have
spoken-
the loud desires
of my heart

So now
there will be
the soft cry
from a manger
and in the
silence
surely they will listen
