Davidson’s Deegan Earns A-10 Honors for Third Straight Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — It was another stellar week for Suzi-Rose Deegan and another Atlantic 10 weekly honor as the freshman claimed her third consecutive A-10 Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league today for games played from Dec. 30-Jan. 5.
Deegan took home her fourth overall rookie of the week honor for the season which is the most since Davidson joined the league in 2014-15.
The freshman from Marmion, Australia enjoyed an excellent A-10 debut at Saint Louis (Jan. 4) last weekend, registering her second double-double in a row to help the Wildcats open league play with a 65-58 road win. Deegan poured in a game-high 25 points and set a new season high with 14 rebounds, nine of which came on defense (season best). She added three assists and two steals in the win.
Deegan played a big part in the Wildcats taking the lead for good in the second half, scoring 16 points combined in the third and four quarters, respectively. She got 11 of those points in the third quarter, including seven consecutive points in one stretch near the end of the third quarter when the ‘Cats opened up a 49-37 lead.
The double figure scoring game was Deegan’s seventh in a row and 10th in the past 11 games overall. She has led the team in scoring eight times this year and has paced the team in rebounding in four of the past five games. The 20-point outing was Deegan’s fourth of the season.
In the past five games, the shooting guard has put up 21.4 points and 9.6 rebounds a game, while shooting 49.4 percent from the floor to go with nine assists and 10 steals. She is currently fourth in the A-10 in scoring (16.4, a team-best) and 10th in rebounding (7.2), while topping the league in made field goals with 89.
Davidson returns home this week for a pair of games, starting Wednesday morning with its annual Education Day game against Fordham at 11 a.m.
