Morgan Whiteside, Founder of CSD Promising Pages Club
Morgan Whiteside, a student at the Community School of Davidson High School, founded an important club at her high school, Community School of Davidson.
The club is called CSD Promising Pages Club. They work with Promising Pages, a nonprofit organization in Charlotte North Carolina. The school club organizes a book drive every year and donates books to Promising Pages. Their mission is to provide ownership of books to underserved children and to cultivate a lifelong love of reading through innovative literacy programs and partnerships.
Over the past three years, the CSD Promising Pages Club has collected 10,817 books! And the CSD students are excited about this effort. This year their book drive collected 3.093 books and donated them directly to Renaissance West STEAM Academy (RWSA). Every student at that school will be able to pick a book to take home to read when they pick up their lunch/breakfast from RWSA.
Morgan said, “It gives us such joy to know that children will have books to read!” One school connecting to another during this time is important and adds meaning to the lives of the givers and the receivers.
