Stroll on the Davidson Campus to See the School’s Collection of Public Art

The latest edition to Davidson College’s campus sculpture program was installed this week. “Walking See Flower” is being located on the lawn between the former laundry and Vail Commons. The 13-foot tall painted steel sculpture was created by contemporary Texas-based artist James Surls, and it was donated to the college by 1995 alumnus John Andrew MacMahon. (Bill Giduz photo)

 

If you’re feeling cooped up with nothing to do, pack up your crew and take a strolling tour of the outstanding collection of public sculpture on the Davidson College campus.

The 15 or so pieces are located primarily on the back side of campus between Chambers Building and the College Union. A map of their location and Information about them can be found at the art gallery web site.

Several of the pieces are also included in an on site audio tour.
