Outdoor Activities in Davidson
Mecklenburg County and Town parks are open if you are not sick! Parking lots have re-opened at county parks. Greenways remain open. The tennis courts at Plum Creek Park have re-opened. However, other active recreation features remain closed including basketball courts, playgrounds. In addition, the bathroom facilities at the Town of Davidson parks and greenways are also closed. Remember to always keep six feet of “social distance” between you and other park or greenway visitors as you walk, run, or ride a bike! Stay safe, Davidson!

Art in Your Inbox – from the Van Every / Smith Galleries
Black lives matter – The Van Every/Smith Galleries and Davidson College stand against racism. We grieve for George Floyd, his family, and Black people across the nation murdered by police violence. We are committed to showing art that illuminates, documents, and reveals racism, injustices, and other truths, even when difficult. But we can do more. Jen Ray – In the spring of 2018, Jen Ray presented her solo exhibition, Surrounded by Wolves, in the Van Every Gallery. Ray explores female rebellion and the shifting nature of a woman’s identity, including what it means to be a feminist in the South. Mikael Chukwuma Owunna – The Van Every/Smith Galleries recently purchased Mikael Chukwuma Owunna’s 4 Queer African Women in the Snow from his collection, Limitless Africans. Antiracism in the Arts – The Alliance of Artists Communities serves on behalf of its members, small and large, leveraging support for the field as a whole; promotes successful practices in the field; and advocates for creative environments that support the work of today’s artists. The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture celebrates the contributions of Africans and African Americans to American culture and serves as a community epicenter for music, dance, theater, visual art, film, arts education programs, literature and community outreach. Explore their virtual exhibitions and follow their Unmasked lecture series.
Levine Museum builds a stronger, more equitable community by connecting people to Charlotte and to each other through history, culture, and celebration. Their exhibits and programs foster empathy, ignite dialogue, and inspire action.
Spelman College’s Museum presents some of the best exhibitions in our region, and Director Andrea Barnwell Brownlee has been an incredible advocate addressing the diversity gap in the museum industry.

The Diggs Gallery at Winston-Salem State University is one of the largest exhibition spaces dedicated to the arts of Africa and the African Diaspora in North Carolina, with a special focus on African-American and regional art.
