The office of Congresswoman Alma Adams (NC-12) has spent the first half of 2020 fighting in Congress and in Charlotte for the best possible response to the economic and health crises caused by COVID-19.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Rep. Adams’ and her office has:

  • Responded to constituents with 10,363 letters;
  • Held 19 virtual events and 21 virtual meetings with the Congresswoman, with over 4,400 constituents in attendance;
  • Introduced 5 bills to address the COVID-19 crisis;
  • Written and led 15 letters to the Trump Administration, congressional leaders, and state leaders on COVID-19 issues;
  • Voted for and fought for the over $212 million in federal funding awarded to the 12th Congressional District for COVID-19 relief efforts;
  • Cosponsored 32 bills to respond to COVID-19 and restore our economy;
  • Cosigned 98 Congressional letters to the Trump Administration, congressional leaders, and other officials on COVID-19 issues

Yesterday, the Charlotte Observer reported that almost 19,000 PPP loans went to Mecklenburg County businesses, saving almost 200,000 jobs. Rep. Adams was the only Mecklenburg legislator to cosponsor the CARES Act, which created the PPP Program.

“This is why we serve in Congress,” said Congresswoman Adams. “My staff and I have worked tirelessly for a whole-of-government response to this unprecedented crisis. Members of Team Adams in Washington and Charlotte have worked countless hours to connect constituents with the resources they need to weather the storm. I introduced and cosponsored legislation to help our economy recover and put financial assistance directly in the hands of North Carolinians. We still have a long way to go to recover from this crisis, but know that I am fighting every day to help Charlotte and Mecklenburg County residents recover.”
