Women’s Tennis Scholar-Athletes Earn All-Academic Team Honors
TEMPE, Ariz. — The Davidson College women’s tennis team was recognized as one of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s 2020 All-Academic Teams, and saw five Wildcats earn individual Scholar-Athlete honors, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Davidson was one of 244 Division I women’s tennis programs to earn the All-Academic Team distinction, as the squad carried a grade point average of 3.2 or above throughout the 2019-20 academic year, in order to qualify.
The Wildcats had five individual ITA Scholar-Athletes as well, in Alexandra Abele, Samantha Armas, Mira Gladstone, Emma Heiderscheit and Nicole Krykanov. The five, which were all named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll earlier this month, carried at least a 3.5 GPA to earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete nod.
“It is hard to put into words how proud I am of our team for all they accomplished academically this year,” said Head Coach Susanne Depka. “The challenges of having their season cut short, finishing their classes online, from home, away from their teammates, coaches, friends, and professors; they continued to persevere and went above and beyond in the classroom yet again.”
