Even in the Midst of the Pandemic, Help Still Needed to Fill Backpacks for Students
School may look different this fall, but thanks to the Back2School Breakout approximately 600 local kids will be well-equipped for learning and growing no matter what. Volunteers and families came together at Gethsemane Baptist Church for a drive-through event.
In year’s past, the community outreach event was far more interactive, but in light of COVID-19 this year was dramatically different. News of Davidson’s Bill Giduz was on hand to get a few photos. Compare this year’s socially-distanced event with last year’s in-person event.
Gethsemane Baptist Church joined forces with St. Alban’s Episcopal, Davidson United Methodist, and Lake Forest-Davidson to raise funds to make it possible to fill more than 600 backpacks with school supplies and a gift card for a pair of new shoes. In past years, it was the fitting of new shoes that was a central focus of the event – along with the games and food.
Thank you to those you have already donated to this worthy effort, your contributions are greatly appreciated!
And while helping more than 600 students from more than 235 local families is amazing, there are more than 65 students still on a waiting list – and the list is growing. In an attempt to fill those remaining requests, your support is needed. If you would like to contribute, you can do so through a variety of methods. (checks; socially distance, but in-person swipes; online; or apps) Contact Gethsemane Baptist Church, 565 Jetton Street, Davidson, NC 28036 for more information. The link to their website can be found here. The church’s phone number is 704.892-1635. Note: if you opt to write a check and mail it – please include B2SB on the memo line.
