This Week At the Davidson Farmers Market: August 8
Hello DFM Shoppers,
Happy National Farmers Market Week! I will be honest, five months ago I did not think we would be celebrating this year’s Farmers Market Week with an operating market. I accepted that things would look differently for the foreseeable future and that this year’s celebration might simply be virtual. But, our community rallied and came along side DFM to help us reconfigure the market and gather the necessary resources and equipment we needed. More importantly, we were given grace during this challenging time and we cannot thank you all enough.
You, our shoppers, continue to make the Davidson Farmers Market what it is. Since we reopened, I have been overwhelmed by support and kindness. I tend to be quiet while at the market, I am an observer and am continuously watching the market to see how things are working and how we can adjust to make the market better, not only during this pandemic, but as the market continues to grow every Saturday year after year. What I know to be true, is our shoppers make the work we do behind the scenes worth it every week. Seeing everyone’s smiles, even behind masks, give myself and the rest of the DFM staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, and especially our vendors the fervor to keep going.
So this week, as we celebrate National Farmers Market Week, we not only celebrate the farmers and purveyors and the markets that establish community and support to small businesses. We also celebrate our shoppers, because without you the market would not exist. Your tenacity and ability to not give-up hope will stay with me and the rest of the team for years to come. I appreciate you all. And though we cannot offer activities for a full-fledged celebration this year, I know that simply walking into the market gathered around community and small businesses in a pandemic is celebrate in itself.
Happy eating,
Justin
P.S. This week, lets celebrate National Farmers Market Week by posting on Instagram and tagging DFM. Show us what you find at the market and/or how you use them at home! We want to spend Saturday sharing everyone’s market experience.
