ReadDavidson Opens Book Nominations for 2021 Selection
ReadDavidson, a town-wide reading initiative begun in 2007 with the participation of avid readers, Main Street Books, and the Davidson Public Library, is soliciting the Davidson community for book title nominations for its 2021 season.
“Reading often begins as a solitary act,” says Adah Fitzgerald, owner of Main Street Books, “but it’s also social; books are written and published to be read by many people. ReadDavidson brings readers together at the same moment in time to discuss and learn from a single book. Our ReadDavidson community conversations are rich with perspectives, interpretations, and opinions that we might not have considered during our solitary reading. We hope that ReadDavidson participants make connections both with stories and with neighbors.”
For the first time, ReadDavidson will also be suggesting a picture book for children so that the entire family can participate in the town-wide read. Nominations for children’s book titles will also be accepted. The committee will select a picture book that pairs with the overall theme of the book chosen for the main ReadDavidson selection. Davidson Public Library branch manager Marie Harris notes, “facilitating discussions at home with our young readers is important to furthering the goal of ReadDavidson: bringing our community together through books. The addition of a picture book makes the themes of ReadDavidson accessible to whole families, strengthening our community generation to generation.”
The 2021 planning committee is accepting nominations now through September 15 and will announce its selection in December 2020. Please see the online form.
