by | Aug 11, 2020 | In Memoriam, News

Shirley Ann Fischer, 74, of Davidson passed away peacefully at her home on August 2, 2020.

Shirley was born in Blakely, GA on May 7, 1946 to the late M.L. Simmons and Muriel Simmons.

Shirley was well loved by her family and friends.  Shirley loved to be active, and spent many hours sailing, biking, and hiking with her beloved husband Tom. She and Tom travelled all over the Eastern United States to bicycle and visit historical sites.  She was also thrilled to have fulfilled a dream of visiting Alaska last year.

Shirley loved early American history and was proud to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, and she spent many hours perfecting a historically accurate pageant of the first Thanksgiving for her family to perform each year.

An avid reader, she loved all different genres of books and was an active member of her neighborhood book club, where she served as the facilitator for many years. She loved walking with a very special group of neighborhood friends who were very dear to her.

She was a proud graduate of Georgia Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta, GA and worked for many years as an emergency room nurse before transitioning to working with hospital computer systems.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Mal Simmons.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Fischer; daughters Alexa Lupfer (Chris) and Rebecca Long (Jacade); grandchildren Ryan Lupfer and Camille Long; as well as her husband’s children Matt Fischer (Ilona), Nancy Fischer (Pat Moloney), Andy Fischer (Gretchen), Karen Hugues (Steve) and grandchildren Maddie & Charlie Fischer, Shannon & Erin Moloney, Claire & Katie Fischer, and Megan & Zach Hugues.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Albans Church in Davidson, NC.
