THE WRITTEN WORD
The Horizon
A poem offered for these troubling times.
The Horizon
Above the darkness of
present reality
covers me like
a cold blanket
My steps are slow
and sad
But as I look toward
an edge of light
there comes a kind of
invitation:
“Walk on O child
of the earth”
So I step gently
in the direction
of the welcoming
“There is always light
in the darkness,”
the wind whispers
“Look not just to
dark clouds above
The horizon is your
destination
not today’s
sorrows
So with that same wind
of hope
at my back
I walk toward
the light
“Is the light setting
or rising,”
I ask
“It matters not,”
the breath of life
tells me
“The light of the
horizon
is for your
beginnings and endings
“Take heart and remember
ancient words…
The light shines in
the darkness
and the darkness
will never
overcome it…
Walk toward the horizon.
