This Week at the Davidson Farmers Market: August 29

by | Aug 27, 2020 | Davidson Farmers Market, News, Nonprofits

A shoppper makes a pastry selection from Butter Crust Bakery.

Hello DFM Shoppers,

Now that we’re settled into our new groove at the market, Courtney and I are excited to start adding more experiences and special touches to the market and our newsletter. We’re starting with recipes! Between the two of us, who are also chefs, its a no-brainer that we use the produce and products available at the market for weekly recipes. Highlighted in the recipes will be the ingredient and the vendor(s) where you can purchase from.

This week make sure to take a closer look at our vendors and their available offerings, slowly small touches of fall are showing up! And, speaking of fall, in a few weeks DFM will start our annual apple fundraiser.

Lastly, Main Street Books will be at the market this weekend! Join them for a live demo and book signing with Chrissie Nelson Rotko, Charlotte foodie, blogger, and author of the new (and gorgeous!) Stunning Spreads. Chrissie will be using DFM-sourced ingredients to build one of her signature spreads. If you can’t be there in person, join in on Instagram Live on @mainstreetbookdavidson ’s feed at 10:30.

Main Street Books will be located at the exit near Pickled Peach, the demo will be in the large grassy area for proper social distancing.

Happy Eating,
Justin

There are still peaches available, but very limited. This week we’re starting to see a touch of fall: butternut squash, acorn squash, spaghetti squash, and lettuces. Plus, chicken is back and Flying Fish Seafood has American Red Snapper.

The full list of vendors is below.

Vendors away this week: Correll Farm and Uno Alla Volta. Kathryn’s Cottage is done for the season.

If you choose pre-order and do not plan to shop in-person, you can skip the line  and pick up your pre-order from the Market Tent (the red tent to the right of the Market entrance). Just give your name and who you pre-ordered from and our DFM volunteers will get your order for you.

Recipe Box: Easy Peach Cobbler

With peach season coming to an end, I thought an easy peach cobbler recipe was very necessary. Enjoy, Courtney

Ingredients

1-3/4 pounds fresh peaches*

1/2 cup (4 oz) salted butter

1 cup self-rising flour (it has to be self-rising!)

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Gently rub the peaches under running water to remove the fuzz, then slice them (should have 4 cups of peaches)

Place butter in an 11 x 7 baking dish and place in the oven until butter melts; remove from oven

In a bowl stir together flour, sugar, cinnamon, milk and vanilla; then pour on top of melted butter – do not stir!

Spoon peaches over mixture – do not stir!

Bake in preheated oven until brown and bubbly – 45-50 minutes

Top with whipped cream or ice cream or nothing!

All vendors, staff, and volunteers will wear masks and have hand sanitizer accessible. In addition, there will be two hand sanitizer stations in the greenspace outside of the market boundaries for shoppers to use (provided by the Town of Davidson).
