DAVIDSON, N.C. – Tuesday, September 1, Governor Roy Cooper and Dr. Mandy Cohen, Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services NCDHHS, provided an update on the state’s data trends related to several COVID-19 key metrics. Due to encouraging stabilization of specific indicators over the last several weeks, Governor Cooper announced the state would be moving into a modified “Safer at Home” Phase 2.5 beginning this Friday, September 4, 2020 and continuing through October 2, 2020.

 What does Phase 2.5 mean?

  • Mass gathering limits will increase to 25 people indoors and 50 people outdoors from the current limit of 10 indoors and 25 outdoors.
  • Playgrounds are permitted to open.
  • Museums and aquariums may open at 50% capacity.
  • Gyms and indoor exercise facilities may open at 30% capacity.
  • Age requirement for mask wearing will include children down to age 5.
  • Capacity limits at restaurants and personal care businesses like hair and nail salons will stay the same.
  • Bars, nightclubs, movie theaters, indoor entertainment facilities and amusement parks will remain closed.
  • Large venues remain subject to the mass gathering limits.

What does this mean for the Town of Davidson?

  • Playgrounds at town parks will open beginning Friday, September 4 at 5pm.
    • Please use these facilities at your own risk; many of our town parks have hand sanitizing stations, but plan ahead and bring your own sanitizing equipment if you so choose.
    • Please also adhere to all remaining protocols such as wearing a face covering for all ages 5 and up, maintaining social distance, and not gathering in groups of more than 50 individuals.
  • No games for contact sports are permitted under Phase 2.5 of the Governor’s Executive Order. Basketball goals will be reinstated on town property for athletic conditioning drills, practice, and family play only.
  • Restroom facilities will reopen at town parks. These restrooms are cleaned by town staff, but not sanitized regularly. Please be mindful and be prepared.
  • Davidson Town Hall remains closed to the public during Phase 2.5.
    • Town staff will continue working remotely. Public Works, Police, and Fire Departments will be available on-site in their roles as first responders.
    • In-person town-sponsored events remain cancelled at this time and all town board and advisory board meetings will continue to be held virtually.
