Your Mom’s Bazaar – Grand Opening

Your Mom’s Bazaar, a sister concept of Your Mom’s Donuts in Matthews and Charlotte, will open next Saturday, October 17, in Davidson, N.C. Located at 107 N. Main Street, Suite 100, this new space will highlight local produce and provisions in celebration of the food and farming communities in and around Charlotte.

All local artists and live music!  This gathering has been moved back from its normal timeframe and will be a bit smaller in scale but will still allow the community to celebrate the arts this fall!

Virtual Public Hearing – Hoke Property

October 21 @ 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to view and comment on plans for developing one of the town’s last major empty plots of land—the abandoned Hoke Lumber Company site —via ZOOM.

The project team of planners will deliver an overview presentation at 5:05 p.m. and 5:45 p.m., with time allotted for questions. The developers are Alliance Group and Taylor Morrison Homes. They propose building 78 townhomes on the 5.5 acre lot. The homes will front Jetton Street on one side, and Catawba Avenue on the other. Features for the project call for internal public spaces, alleys, a new street connecting Jetton Street and Catawba Avenue, two greens and walkways throughout the development.

An Evening with Lilliam Rivera + Stephen Kaliski

Award-winning writer Lilliam Rivera will be in conversation with Davidson’s own Stephen Kaliski, accomplished director and playwright and Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre at Davidson College. Kaliski’s recent works include The Briefly Dead, a sequel to Euripides’ Alcestis, and The Refugees, a loose adaptation of Greek myths, inspired by the current refugee crisis in southern Europe, that offers pointed commentary on the very contemporary issues of climate change, xenophobia, generational conflict, and compromised ideals.  Register

Lilliam Rivera will be speaking with the hijas of Circle de Luz as a part of her virtual tour with us on October 22. With your help, Main Street Books will be gifting each girl in the program a copy of Rivera’s latest release, NEVER LOOK BACK. Circle de Luz is a Charlotte-based nonprofit that radically empowers young Latinas by supporting their transformation through extensive mentoring, holistic programming, and scholarship funds for further education.
