Hello DFM Shoppers,

The thrill of shopping at a farmers market is the access to new and exciting produce, cuts of meat, and speciality items that we can’t find at commercial grocery stores. Added benefit is being able to connect with the purveyors, hearing their process, their recommendations, and how to use your selected items.

When I come across an item that I am unfamiliar with or have heard about but never used, I asked how they would prepare the item. This is where I find many of my inspirations for recipes. This week, ask your farmers and artisans if they have a recipe they like to use for the items you’re interested in. Typically, the recipes they suggest are timeless family recipes that are simple to execute and delicious –– becoming part of your family’s favorite regular meals.

Farmers markets are more than just places to purchase food. It is community, where the exchange of food sparks stories that bring us together and continue the history of the relationship between growers and eaters.

Happy eating,
Justin
