This week, Contributing Editor Allyson Ray brings back one of our favorite stories from 2017, among many contributions from our prolific Davidson History columnist, Nancy Griffith. The story of Ada Jenkins inspires and humbles us still—as the force of a strong woman continues to strengthen our community.

Since News of Davidson went live in September 2017, we’ve posted over 2,000 news stories and column contributions, and literally uncountable calendar events (until COVID slowed the pace). Our stories celebrate our history, sure, but also neighbors, nonprofits, athletics, events, and businesses, and we share hundreds of community images.

We’ll reach into our brief but busy history about once a week through the end of 2020, partly as a way to spread a little joy when we all can use some, and yes, to encourage your support for the work we love to do.
