Holidays for Hope and Housing 2019

Mark your calendars! Davidson Housing Coalition’s beloved annual Holidays for Hope and Housing event will take place on December 12 and will celebrate its 20th year. Neighborhoods over Davidson, Cornelius, and Mooresville will all shine a light on affordable housing through the lighting of luminaria.

Luminaria are provided in exchange for a donation of any amount. Donations go towards supporting Davidson Housing Coalition’s programs. These include 62 affordable housing units, and financial counseling, homebuyer education, job search assistance, all provided free to the public. DHC also provides emergency critical home repairs through their HAMMERS program, which serves low-income homeowners in north Mecklenburg.

Last year’s event raised over $90,000 for these programs, and over 700 households participated. DHC hopes to raise even more this year so it can continue these important services for those in the community, especially those who are directly impacted by the effects of COVID-19.

Over 1,200 luminaria are currently being created. DHC would like to send a generous thank you to St. Alban’s Episcopal

church for allowing the use of their parking lot, which allows for greater social distancing for volunteers creating luminaria bags. DHC would also like to thank Hoke Lumber for their donation of sand for the bags, as well as volunteer support from the Boy Scouts of America, Community School of Davidson, and the Lake Norman Teen Council.

To learn more and to donate, please visit their website. If you are interested in serving as a volunteer for this year’s event, please contact DHC’s Development Coordinator, Anthony Ryback at his email.
