This Week at DFM – November 14

Hello DFM Shoppers,
On Sunday, November 8, the Barbee Family (Barbee Farms) and the Smith Family (Big Oak Farm) generously hosted the DFM staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers for an appreciation day and low-country boil dinner at Barbee Farms. The afternoon was beautiful, touring Barbee Farms listening to heartfelt stories from Tommy about his family’s multigenerational farm and learning more about where our food comes from. After the tour we headed back for a delicious meal that was locally sourced almost down to the seasoning prepared by the Smiths.
This moment to stop and relax, and commune with our farmer friends and DFM volunteers outside of the market was a treat. Our generous hosts made sure everyone felt safe and comfortable, keeping the pandemic at the forefront of planning but giving their guests a moment of “normalcy.”
At DFM, we (staff and volunteers), do what we do because we love our community and adore our farmers and purveyors. This year has taught us many things, but the one lesson I takeaway from this year is that no mater what the challenges are, we’re in this together and a local farmers market, like ours, can have an impact far greater than we know. The love and respect between DFM and our vendors is mutual and something we do not take for granted.

Friendly reminder that Saturday, November 21 will be the last market before DFM takes a holiday break. The market will return Saturday, December 5 with our Holiday Markets (12/5, 12/12, and 12/19) then close for two weeks before returning Saturday, January 9 for our Winter Market (every other Saturday, 9am-Noon).

Don’t miss these items available at market:
Butter Crust Bakery has two new items – mini brioche loaves and pecan sticky buns; Barbee Farms has cauliflower, broccoli, and still available are stringless green beans; Essential Soap Co. has four new holiday soaps: evergreen, holiday kitchen, peppermint kiss, and the gift; and Raceway Berry Farm has dried flower arrangements.

Vendors done for the season: Correll Farm, Mood Indigo, Twin Oaks Farm, Kathryn’s Cottage, Peaches N’ Cream, and Uno Alla Volta.
If you choose pre-order and do not plan to shop in-person, you can skip the line and pick up your pre-order from the Market Tent (the red tent to the right of the Market entrance). Just give your name and who you pre-ordered from and our DFM volunteers will get your order for you.

Barbee Farms – A variety of fresh produce
Available this week: We will have lots of beautiful colored cauliflower this weekend! Many of your fall favorites will be on hand: broccoli, lettuce, spinach, green onions, kale, cabbage, spinach, collards, bok choy, Swiss Chard, and beets. To round out the fall offerings will be sweet potatoes, white potatoes, butternut, and shelled October beans. Stringless green beans are still available! Don’t forget to pick up some farm fresh eggs!
To Know: At our Davidson Market vending site, customers will be able to choose their own produce after proper hand sanitization. We will not be offering online ordering this weekend for Davidson market pick up but will have staff available to assist you with your shopping if requested.
