ReadDavidson Announces its 2021 Book Selections and Invites Community to Participate

by | Dec 3, 2020 | News, Town Information

ReadDavidson, an annual town-wide reading initiative that started in 2007, is a partnership between the Town of Davidson, the Davidson Public Library, Main Street Books, and local avid readers. The ReadDavidson committee encourages people to read a selected book and attend fun and educational book-related events that make the book come to life.

For the first time ever, ReadDavidson is excited to announce that it has selected FOUR books. In an effort to involve the entire Davidson community, books for a wide range of age groups have been chosen as follows:

Adult (Non-Fiction): Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent by Isabel Wilkerson
Young Adult/Adult (Fiction): Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
Middle Grades: Genesis Begins Again by Alicia D. Williams
Children’s Book: The Power of One by Trudy Ludwig, illustrated by Mike Curato

“After a year like 2020 when our habits have changed, our travel has been limited, and we’re dealing with tough situations, we need books now more than ever to be able to learn and explore. We thought it was critical to embrace readers at all levels and of all interests this year, and these four titles all have something really valuable to offer our community,” said Marie Harris, Branch Leader of the Davidson Public Library.

2021 events will be scheduled for April in conjunction with the town’s annual “April is for Arts” initiative but will also include a few virtual events in February and March to stimulate early reading.  Virtual events will highlight each of these four selections with the aim of stimulating common conversation between friends, families, and community members.

For all the latest ReadDavidson information, including links to purchase any (or all!) of the titles at a discount from our local favorite Main Street Books and a wonderful opportunity to give back by donating a book bundle to a family in need, see www.townofdavidson.org/readdavidson. We’ll also share information here about upcoming virtual events for ReadDavidson 2021.
