Giving Village 2020 – How It Works

The Giving Village Fundraiser is a unique fundraiser in a “normal” year, and the Rotary Club of Davidson has done a tremendous job of adjusting the event to make it COVID compliant. The festive fundraising village highlights non-profits and local businesses as they team up to create this community event focused on giving. Last year, through your generous contributions, Rotary Club of Davidson distributed over $30,000 to local charities!

The Giving Tree Village officially opened at 5 p.m. on December 1, as the Town of Davidson kicked off the start of 12 Days of Christmas in Davidson. This year the trees are set up in an arch stretching across the Town Green for a wide-open COVID-compliant experience. Gone is the “tunnel” that would have limited the ability for people to maintain appropriate social distance.

Most importantly, ALL voting is being held ONLINE. This is a competition! Every dollar you spend on your favorite tree equals a vote!

Tickets are being sold in increments of $5. Each ticket is a “vote” for your favorite tree or non-profit. Buy as many tickets as you’d like. Now, more than ever, your local non-profits need our support. If you choose to visit the Giving Village in person, you will find QR codes for online voting at each tree. You can also scroll the shop here to find your favorite tree. Stay safe and have fun!

Your News of Davidson team wanted to make our own donation to the effort. After all, we are a local nonprofit – and we know the importance of donor support. So, we decided to take it to the next level. We took pictures of every tree, and we took more than one photo. We set up a gallery with individual albums of photos for each of the 47 trees. Some have more photos than others, simply based on the number of unique and special ornaments. Even if you can’t visit the Giving Village in person can still get an up-close view of the wonderful trees and the ornaments and all the work that went into decorating.

It’s easy, just scroll the bottom of this article. We are listing the trees in alphabetical order of the nonprofits they support. This is the same order as Rotary Club’s catalogue where you can buy tickets. Their page also provides information about the nonprofit and the business that sponsored the tree. You can even link to the Rotary page by scanning the photo of the tree’s QR code featured in our photo album.

For some of these non-profits, this is the largest fundraiser they will have all year. The non-profit will receive 100% of the funds they earn with your votes plus they will receive funds from their sponsor and there are opportunities for prize money based for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place as well as Prettiest, Most Festive & Best Us of Theme!

PLEASE share this article by email and on your social media – this is a wonderful fundraiser, and we hope you will continue to support these deserving nonprofits and the businesses who decorated the trees.

Voting ends Friday night, December 11 at 9:00 p.m.
