NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — In leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, Davidson junior Chloe Welch has been named the Atlantic 10’s Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league announced Monday.

The Colorado native averaged 24.5 points per game over the two-game stretch and shot 62.5 percent from the field. Against Charleston Southern last Wednesday, Welch scored 17 points and dished five assists, marking her fourth straight game with double-figures in scoring. Last Friday, Welch scored a career-high 32 points against Appalachian State, including 18 straight points in the fourth quarter, which lifted the Wildcats to a second-half comeback and 67-64 win over the Mountaineers.

“We are incredibly proud of Chloe for this achievement, and are excited she is getting the recognition she deserves,” said head coach Gayle Fulks. “Chloe has a great work ethic, and this week we caught a glimpse of how that has translated into her game. We can’t wait to see where the rest of this season takes her.”

Currently, Welch ranks 17th nationally with 111 total points this season, 13th with 43 field goals made and sits 24th in the country, averaging 22.2 points per game. Her points per game average is good for third among all A-10 players.
