Editors’ Choice: Resolutions

by | Dec 29, 2020 | Local, News, Top Left Box

We choose to look forward to 2021 and make a pledge to publish even more wonderful stories about our amazing community.

The News of Davidson editorial team put our heads together to consider our choice for this final week in a trying, to say the least, and heartbreaking, to say it true, year. We decided not to look back with you, Reader, but to look forward, where the light promises to break.

In doing so, we made a few resolutions for 2021.

First, we resolve in 2021 to seek out and publish even more stories about what we see as the true heart of our distinctive community—the people, today and yesterday. Relatable stories like celebrating Betty Walley’s 60 years in her N. Main Street home. Or welcoming newer neighbors like the Bjorholm family from Denmark. Or a very special first haircut in our town’s iconic Raeford’s Barber Shop.

Next, we resolve in 2021 to celebrate the heck out of every hint, sign, or announcement that portends a return to life as we knew it. Vaccines, Concerts on the Green, Halloween, door-knocking, meeting for lunch! We’ll wear those masks for a good while yet, we aren’t crazy, but we know that things are swinging up. We will tell those stories.

Finally, we resolve in 2021 to keep on keeping on. To remind and remember and report. The News of Davidson team is lean. All volunteers, we put our heads together once a week at least to bring you stories and news and the best possible images—all to capture our community. We can’t wait to fill our NoD calendar again!

In this final week of a generally lousy year, we are yet grateful to have this work to do. We are grateful for the gifts you’ve made to lock us in for 2021. And we are hopeful.

Reader, thank you for being part of our story. If you are still making year-end gifts to your favorite nonprofits, please consider a gift to your hometown micro-news site.

Finally by all means, join us as we resolve to stay safe, but kick up our heels as we celebrate a New Year!
