Community Groups Celebrate the Life of Tony Abbott
One ceremony honoring Tony Abbott was held on Jan. 7, and another one is slated for Jan. 27.
Anthony “Tony” S. Abbott was born in January 1934, and his community is gathering this month to celebrate his life with two virtual events. The first gathering was on January 7, 2021, and the second will be held on January 27, 2021. See below for details.
The January 7th event celebrated Tony and the release of his final collection of poems, Dark Side of North. Cohosted by Charlotte Writers Club North and Main Street Books, this virtual event featured readings from his new book as well as reminiscences honoring his life.
Charlotte Writers Club is editing the event video and will post it on their website. Dark Side of North is available at Main Street Books.

Next, a Community Celebration Honoring Tony Abbott will be held virtually on January 27 at 7:00 p.m.
Tony Abbott contributed a great deal to our communities. Davidson College, DavidsonLearns, Davidson College Presbyterian Church, Davidson Community Players, and Learning in Retirement at The Pines have joined in sponsoring an event to celebrate Tony and the difference he made.
Jane Avinger, Jacqueline Bussie, Karl Plank, Jim Martin, Jane Ratteree, Sheri Reynolds, and John Griffith will share insights into the remarkable difference Tony made for them and to the diverse membership of each of the sponsoring entities.
