Davidson Community Foundation Awards Third Round of COVID Emergency Grants: Seeks Community Support for Neighbors Experiencing Ongoing Crisis

by | Jan 17, 2021 | Bottom Right Box, Davidson Community Foundation, News

In response to ongoing critical needs among our neighbors for housing, utility, and food support, Davidson Community Foundation (DCF) has awarded a third round of COVID Emergency Grants to five local non-profit partners. Since May 2020, DCF has awarded nearly $300,000 to nine partner agencies and houses of worship, enabling them to directly help nearly 230 families (over 750 individuals) in our community who have been hardest hit by the impact of the COVID crisis on their jobs and lives.

“With the acceleration in COVID cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, along with recent stay-at-home orders and other restrictions, this is a time of unprecedented suffering for many families of our community due to no fault of their own. Unable to pay rent, utility and food expenses, so many of our neighbors must rely on the compassion and generosity of our community in order to survive,” said Marvin Brandon, member of DCF Board of Advisors and Gethsemane Baptist Church.

While this third round of COVID Emergency Grants will help non-profit partners provide immediate direct support to 62 families (158 individuals), the needs of our fellow community members are staggering and expected to continue well into 2021.

“So many of our neighbors are in crisis. It’s hard to imagine that there are many people in our beloved community who are unable to put food on the table for their families,” said Jane Avinger, DCF Board member, adding, “the Foundation is committed to do all we can to help. I hope the community will continue to strongly support DCF and our local non-profits as we serve those with extraordinary needs for support.”

DCF is an all-volunteer effort led by a Board of Advisors and affiliated as a field of interest fund with Foundation For The Carolinas. Tax-deductible donations can be made online at www.fftc.org/Davidson, or by sending a check payable to Foundation For The Carolinas, ATTN: Davidson Community Foundation (Fund 3749), 220 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Donations of appreciated stock are encouraged. About Davidson Community Foundation

Davidson Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the lives of Davidson residents, now and for generations, by working with local leaders and donors to build and distribute a community fund to address Davidson’s most pressing needs. This citizen-driven initiative is designed to substantially expand local philanthropy and direct it to where it’s most needed. The Fund provides both transformative grants to local non-profit organizations to address long-term, high-impact needs, as well as pressing needs through the DCF Emergency Fund. Through grants to local, non-profit charitable organizations, the Emergency Fund will augment the ability of the Davidson community to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.
