Davidson Volleyball returns to Belk Arena for spring play.

DAVIDSON, N.C. — After having not played a match in over a year due to COVID-19, the Davidson women’s volleyball program is set to make its season debut tomorrow afternoon, hosting Jacksonville University in a 2 p.m. contest from inside Belk Arena.

The Wildcats will return to the floor tomorrow for their first game since Nov. 22, 2019, when Davidson faced Saint Louis University in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.

Davidson comes into its spring 2021 season after finishing 10-18 overall and 5-9 in league play during the 2019 campaign. The ‘Cats return their top three attackers from last season in Hattie Rodriguez (3.35 K/S), Annalyse Kitzberger (2.27 K/S) and Madeline Wynn (2.15 K/S), while Sydney Champaigne is expected to pace Davidson’s offense once again, averaging 9.55 assists per set during her junior year.

Freshmen Sola Omonije, Bella Brady, Sophia Hritz and Jessie Doyal all join the ‘Cats for their college volleyball debuts, as Brady and Hritz are anticipated to lead the Wildcat’s defense from the back row.

Davidson has competed against Jacksonville twice previously, dropping both matches by 3-1 scores. The last time the ‘Cats met the Dolphins, Champaigne dished 46 assists and Wynn notched 11 kills.

The Wildcats were predicted to finish sixth overall in the Atlantic 10 this season, and will begin their conference play on Friday, Feb. 5 against Duquesne. Due to travel limitations, Davidson will only compete against Duquesne, Saint Louis, VCU and Dayton for league match ups.
